Phase 1 of the project which commenced at the beginning of April, the creation of a new Elemental Microanalysis Laboratory, is coming to completion.
The next stage which involves converting an existing laboratory into a dedicated Stability Storage Facility has been started, with completion expected by mid June. Phase three will involve the refurbishment of the Sample and Visitor Receptions and other administration offices. This will be followed by the creation of a new ICP-MS facility to house our current Agilent 7700x instrument and the new Agilent ICP-QQQ (Agilent 8800) instrument recently ordered. The final phase will be the production of some new offices and Server Room. Overall the project will increase the Laboratory and Office space by about 15%. We hope all the work will be completed by the end of July.
Throughout the project we have worked closely with the contractors to ensure that there has been no disruption to our ability to maintain normal levels of service. To this end, our staff have been magnificent in their willingness to be temporarily relocated to enable the refurbishment to proceed.
