Prioritising Wellbeing at Butterworth Laboratories: My Whole Self Day

11 March 2025

At Butterworth Laboratories, we recognise that our people are our greatest asset. A healthy and supportive workplace starts with looking after both our own wellbeing and that of our colleagues. That’s why, for My Whole Self Day 2025, we are introducing the My Whole Self MOT, a simple yet effective way to check in on your own mental health and wellbeing.

Why the My Whole Self MOT Matters

Mental health is just as important as physical health, yet we often overlook the small daily check-ins that can make a big difference. The My Whole Self MOT encourages us all to take a moment to reflect on how we’re feeling—mentally, physically, and emotionally.

Simple Steps to Check In on Yourself

Taking care of our wellbeing doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are a few key areas we should all consider:

✔ How’s my mental health today?
Take a moment to assess how you feel mentally and physically. Recognising emotions—both positive and negative—is the first step in managing them effectively.

✔ My Stress Container
We all have a mental ‘stress container’—some days it’s overflowing, while other days we manage better. Are you using helpful coping strategies? Do they work for you?

✔ Looking after my wellbeing
Are you getting enough rest, staying hydrated, and eating a balanced diet? Small lifestyle choices can significantly impact our mental resilience.

✔ How’s my thinking today?
Are your thoughts helping or hindering you? Identifying unhelpful thinking patterns can prevent stress from building up. Resources such as Every Mind Matters offer practical tips to support clearer thinking.

Supporting Each Other

Wellbeing is not just an individual responsibility—it’s something we should all cultivate together. At Butterworth Laboratories, we encourage open conversations around mental health. Whether it’s a casual chat over coffee or a formal check-in, reaching out to others can help foster a supportive workplace culture. Our qualified Mental Health First Aiders are also available to any colleagues experiencing a mental health issue and requiring advice or support.

What’s Next?

We invite all our colleagues to take a My Whole Self MOT today. Write down one or two things you can do this week to support your wellbeing. Then, check back in to see how you’re doing. We are also encouraging all colleagues to take a few minutes to read the My Whole Self: Healthy ways of working guide provided by Mental Health First Aid England®, which has some useful tips on creating healthy working habits.

Let’s make mental health a priority—not just today, but every day. Together, we can create a workplace where everyone feels supported, valued, and able to bring their whole self to work.
